GET TO KNOW ME

Hello! My name is Irene

As a counselling psychologist, my ultimate goal is to help you thrive in a world that is constantly evolving. Whether it's adapting to changes in your personal life or performing optimally in your workplace and community, I'm here to support you every step of the way.

I work with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where you can explore and facilitate change and meaning. I understand that you are unique, and I tailor each therapy session to meet your specific needs and challenges. To do this, I integrate elements from various approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Client Centred Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and BWRT Level 2 (Brain Working Recursive Therapy).

I'm not only a professional, but I'm also passionate about helping people. I've participated in numerous radio talks and have appeared on a TV talk show, Mental Health Issues, to help spread awareness and knowledge. My diverse life experiences, both personally and professionally, have given me the ability to empathize with and understand the unique challenges that confront members of our community.

So if you're looking for a warm, caring, and knowledgeable counselling psychologist who can help you overcome life's challenges, I'm here for you. Let's work together to achieve your goals and unlock your full potential.

-Your Mental Health Matters: Let's Prioritize It Together!-

I am a qualified Counseling Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and with the Board of Healthcare Funders. In addition, I am affiliated with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) and with numerous organisations offering  Employee Assisted Programmes.

I completed my master’s degree at the University of Pretoria. I believe that training and development is a lifelong pursuit and for this reason I have attended, and will continue to attend, numerous workshops to keep up to date with current developments.

Individual
Psychotherapy

Individual therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which I work one-on-one with a client to help them address their emotional, behavioral, or mental health issues. It provides a safe and confidential space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop coping skills and strategies to improve their well-being.

Trauma refers to an emotional and psychological response to a distressing event that exceeds a person's coping abilities. Traumatic experiences can include but are not limited to physical or emotional abuse, natural disasters or accidents. These traumas can occur both in childhood and in adults. Childhood trauma is a subject that touches the lives of many, whether directly or indirectly. It can take various forms, such as emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, as well as neglect. Its effects on the developing brain and long-term consequences can be profound, influencing emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, and overall well-being.
